Robert Gill (b. September 21, 1990), better known by the stage name REASON, is an American rapper from Del Amo, California. REASON got his start on Soundcloud with his 2015 single “The Proof.” He followed this single with The Free Album, his debut mixtape. Seven months later, he released his second mixtape, Proof. In 2017, he released his third mixtape, There You Have It. REASON first attained widespread popularity after his scene-stealing verse on “Seasons,” the twelfth track on the Black Panther soundtrack that was curated by Kendrick Lamar and Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith. On August 8, 2018, REASON was announced as the newest signee of Top Dawg Entertainment through a tweet from Top Dawg. An introductory single by REASON, titled “The Soul,” was released to coincide with his signing. Also, his record deal came shortly after it was announced that REASON would be opening for Jay Rock on The Big Redemption Tour.
